A terrace canopy and a veranda are two words implying the same thing; An extension to a house covering an outside area. Or a roof supported by two posts, made of aluminium or wood and polycarbonate or glass roofing.

A garden rooms refers to an ‘uninsulated’ house extension in the shape of a terrace canopy or veranda equipped with (glass) (sliding) doors so that the area can be fully closed. Architecturally, a garden room is not part of the house.

A garden room looks like a conservatory, but the main differences is that a conservatory refers to an insulated extension of the house. So this is an actual part of a house, making it more expensive and complicated to buy and install a conservatory.

With its product range, Glass Garden Room specializes entirely on terrace canopies, verandas and garden rooms.

A veranda allows you to create a covered outside area. In addition to being a beautiful addition to your house, it also allows you to find shelter from the sun, or to sit outside in rainy or cold weather. In addition, it also allows you to better protect your garden furniture against weather influences.

Why choose an aluminium veranda? Below, you’ll find a brief list of the benefits of aluminium:

  • Aluminium verandas are generally cheaper than verandas made from different materials.
  • An aluminium veranda offers a strong construction that will last for many years.
  • Aluminium requires little maintenance. It is a metal that doesn’t corrode or rot like timber.
  • Aluminium verandas have a longer lifespan, meaning that you just have to invest once and can enjoy the veranda for many years without having to replace it.

In case of proper maintenance, a canopy should last many years. Of course, many aspects can affect this, that is why we can’t offer any fixed terms.

Adding a glass door system to an existing canopy at a later moment is no problem at all. We are happy to refer you to a specialized Glass Garden Room dealer near you!

Because of the flexible design of the glass sliding door systems, the Fiano sliding doors can be placed underneath every veranda, even if they are not a Glass Garden Rooms product.

Is condensation in polycarbonate normal?

Due to the water vapour permeability of polycarbonate, condensation can occur in the polycarbonate sheets. The occurrence of condensate in the chambers depends on the weather conditions and on the installation situation. Weather conditions are understood to mean: temperature, temperature difference between inside and outside, absolute humidity, relative humidity, wind and convection circumstances and solar radiation.

In this context, we want to emphasize that condensate in the sheets does not adversely affect the function and quality of the sheets and can occur temporarily and in different forms in and on the individual sheets. In Opaque coloured sheets this is less visible. Do you have any doubts or questions about this? If so, please get in touch with your Glass Garden Rooms dealer.

We follow the European guidelines for assessing glass. There is a ducth explanation on these guidelines. You can see it here. (Document only available in dutch)
